The School [ School Code: 70894 ] is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi [ Affiliation No: 2180009(new) , 2130081(old) ]. The School is run by the UP Sainik School Society with the Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh as its Chairperson and is fully financed by the state government. Local board of administration (LBA) with the Commissioner, Lucknow Division, as its Chairman and Principal of the school as the Secretary, is responsible for its efficient functioning on day to day basis.
Established on 15 July 1960 in the serene environs of Sarojini Nagar, Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey Uttar Pradesh Sainik School, Lucknow holds the distinction of being the first Sainik School of the nation. Conceived with the visionary aim of enhancing the representation of Uttar Pradesh in the officer cadre of the Armed Forces, the institution has, over the decades, evolved into a cradle of discipline, leadership, and excellence.
In July 2017, the school was rechristened in honor of its illustrious alumnus, Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, whose supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War stands as a timeless testament to courage, valor, and devotion to duty. His legacy continues to inspire generations of cadets to uphold the highest ideals of the Armed Forces.
Originally established as an all-boys institution, the school embraced progressive national policies by inducting its first batch of girl cadets in April 2018. Since then, it has continued to admit girl cadets annually, reinforcing its commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity, in alignment with the evolving ethos of the Armed Forces.
As a pioneering institution functioning under the aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Sainik Schools Society, the school remains steadfast in its mission to provide high-quality, value-based education.
